It&#8217;s time to satisfy the curiosity of international organizations&#8217; world leading to the mystery of OAS. As a research fellow who has dedicated long hours to the studying of negotiations and writes up diplomatic documents, it is my pleasure to share the knowledge I have gained from these incredible sources about this exceptionally created organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Birth_of_OAS\"><\/span>The Birth of OAS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now imagine the year 1927, the world is recovering after the end of World War II. Amidst fierce concerns, 21 countries from North and South America meet together. The task? To maintain peace, justice, and brotherhood among the Americas. Hey, and thus, the Organization of American States is born!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_OAS_Do\"><\/span>What Does OAS Do?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps, the majority of you are asking, &#8220;Why OAS is so special?&#8221; And now I am responding like this, it&#8217;s basically the most powerful superhero team of the Americas. But instead of the make-believe villains, they care for the real-life problems. Here is the summary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They try to bring peace between the countries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They work on strengthening of democracy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are watchdogs for human rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They promote economic and social development through their activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"OAS_in_Action\"><\/span>OAS in Action<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this research, I want to share with you a real case. The background to this story is the political crisis in Honduras in 2009. OAS came into the scenario and they made use of their imperial power of diplomacy to solve it. They took action of suspending membership of Honduras until democratic order was restored in the country. It is like a time-out given to a country but on a global scale!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Structure_of_OAS\"><\/span>The Structure of OAS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OAS is not just one large chamber where countries can chat. There is a structure to it, and it is as complex as a birthday cake. Here it is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General Assembly: The boss of all bosses convened where all member states are to have to be found each year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Permanent Council: The daily managers who run the machinery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General Secretariat: The men who keep the organization alive and well<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specialized Organizations: The people in charge of their respective areas of expertise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"OAS_A_Power_for_the_Good\"><\/span>OAS: A Power for the Good?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, I would like to come straight to the point. Just like an organization is a big institution, OAS is criticized a lot though. A person screams it\u2019s not effective anymore and other says that it\u2019s too biased towards other countries. I guess, from my point of view after quite some studying, OAS is not perfect but it is a significant contributor in providing the necessary stability in the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_OAS_Acronyms_A_Surprise_Package\"><\/span>Other OAS Acronyms: A Surprise Package!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So you thought it was only about the American states, surprise!
