Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) are a type of fishing where local fishermen collect fish from the waters and clean them, often leaving them whole and intact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These small boats are not depart from the harbor with bulky ships and high-tech fishing gear, which are legally prohibited in the protected marine area. It is them who are considered as the local heroes of the fishing community because it is them who are quite active in keeping the traditions intact and we are the ones who can get fresh fish on our plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_SSF_Matters\"><\/span>Why SSF Matters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Small-Scale Fishing (SSF) is the glue that keeps many coastal communities together. Now, remember what the mom-and-pop shops are to the land, they are those to the sea. Indeed, the fisheries in these places are the ones who are the food producers who feed millions and at the same time keep the economy alive. These fishermen not only catch fishes but also breed traditional ways of living. It is as if the ocean is their office and the boat is their cubicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SSF_and_Sustainability\"><\/span>SSF and Sustainability<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fundamentally SSF is quite good at nature. They are not using the methods which are not harmful to the environment and they apply. Just imagine if you are taking some water, but you are trying to return them back when you are done, it can be something like no stealing anymore. Local fishermen belong to the greener marine areas and know every rock. They are preserving nature. The big fisheries would come in like the bullies in the ocean playground. In addition to that, climate changes that are supposed to be fixed by fish habitats are only making the conditions that fish meet with become difficult. Regulations are a pain in the neck. It sometimes feels like they are caught in a maze of red tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Future_of_SSF\"><\/span>The Future of SSF<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SSF is changing its traditionally static architecture to adjust to the new environment. The advices are like partnering with the scientists to locate the fish populations and be able to evaluate their conditions. Some of them are crawling out of their comfort zones to establish a direct customer to consumer sales model for their catch. It&#8217;s like being fluent in the language of nature with so many new and different aspects to it. The target is to keep SSF afloat and closely trace to the traditions to come&#8217;s generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_Meanings_of_SSF\"><\/span>Other Meanings of SSF<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SSF goes beyond just fish. It has nothing to do with animals or stars, but it is an acronym that can change its meanings, depending on the format. Here&#8217;s a quirky list of other things SSF might stand for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Super Sonic Frisbee (Sports): A made-up game where frisbees break the sound barrier. The seamstress then embellishes the shoe with a variety of beads and sequins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sudden Smile Frequency (Psychology): A measure of the number of people who find more and more reasons to naturally turn up-salvaging humor. It&#8217;s only a guess but from our findings, this comes mostly in form of coffee. Die, don&#8217;t die, die, don&#8217;t die! It&#8217;s how we see our day-full of deadlines, and we are dealing with a lot of stress anyway. Instead of the typical morning passerby, it would only be a matter of time until the traffic actually breaks for your morning calm disease. You get a little break in the poignancy, so why not?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sasquatch Spotting Federation (Cryptozoology): An organization dedicated to the finding of the elusive Bigfoot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sneaky Snack Finder (Technology): An app that locates hidden snacks in your home. No cookie is safe!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solar System Fixer (Astronomy): A hypothetical job for someone who upholds the correct planetary rotation enabling them to be in the same orbit.
