It is the core of a process of strengthening local areas by helping citizens to get involved in decisions affecting their daily lives. In Kerala, India the LSGs played a crucial role in the floods of 2018. Apart from this, they managed the camps that were set up and also coordinated the efforts that helped in rescuing people. The main actors were the local people that did heroic work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of Porto Alegre in Brazil, for example, implemented participatory budgeting through the LSG system. The citizens themselves got to decide how public money should be spent.
