This getting up and going of the JRS like the swift multitude of Peter of the Acts Church is a mystery for the young Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Birth_of_JRS\"><\/span>The Birth of JRS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The birth of JRS occurred in 1980, a time when the world was having a hard time dealing with the Vietnamese boat people crisis. Father Pedro Arrupe, the then Superior General of the Society of Jesus, looked at the meaningless life of these refuges and said, &#8220;Office a aye maca we tam yere.&#8221; That was it, JRS was in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_JRS_Do\"><\/span>What Does JRS Do?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, JRS is not only about food parcels and other relief operations but they are more proactive in the sphere of refugees as being their Swiss Army knife. To be specific, the following are the areas they give particular attention to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Education: Because knowledge is power, right?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency Assistance: When the going gets tough, JRS gets going.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Healthcare: Keeping refugees fighting fit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Livelihood Activities: Teaching people to fish, metaphorically speaking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reconciliation: Because can&#8217;t we all just get along?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"JRS_by_the_Numbers\"><\/span>JRS by the Numbers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All right, let&#8217;s delve into statistics a little bit. JRS in 2020 served more than 800,000 people in 56 different countries. This is the same amount of people that would fill 10 football stadiums! There are more than six thousand staff and volunteers that spread all over the world. A truly global family in every sense!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_JRS_Approach\"><\/span>The JRS Approach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I am often struck by the patronizing nature of these kinds of thoughts that people entertain such as.. Indeed, JRS does not rush in at all like Superman and save the world immediately. Rather, it is more like that friend who stands by you in all times. The organization firmly stands for being with the refugees on their journey &#8211; in the loving way of God &#8211; understanding what they are passing through, helping their problems and standing up for them. It is not just the issue of teaching or giving a man fish &#8211; it is the profound element of sitting by the pond and just listening to his story. This listening also becomes an expression of deep care and a token of solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"JRS_in_Action_A_Case_Study\"><\/span>JRS in Action: A Case Study<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us start with Syria. From 2011 onwards, JRS has been there on the ground providing emergency aids, education, and psychosocial support. They have been able to help more than 460,000 people in 2020 alone in Syria alone. That is more people than Miami&#8217;s population!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_You_Can_Get_Involved\"><\/span>How You Can Get Involved<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you been empowered by the information you have just obtained?
